On March 16, 2022 from 1 p.m. (EST) to 3 p.m. (EST), the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and the Canadian Pork Council will be hosting a live webinar regarding the upcoming consultation for the proposed National Standards and Framework on a National Compartment Program (NCP) to mitigate the risk of African swine fever (ASF) and support the potential for greater business continuity should ASF be detected in Canada. ASF has never been found in Canada, but it continues to spread internationally and poses a significant risk to the Canadian pork industry and the Canadian economy. The CFIA has recently supported the development of the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) guidelines for ASF compartmentalization and is in the process of supporting industry with the development of an ASF NCP for swine in anticipation of ASF being discovered in Canada.

The consultation opens March 18, 2022 and stakeholders have until June 14, 2022 to submit feedback. Feedback and comments can be submitted to cfia.ASFCompartments-CompartimentsPPA.acia@inspection.gc.ca.

Un webinaire concernant un programme national de compartimentation afin d'atténuer le risque de peste porcine africaine (PPA)

Le 16 mars 2022, de 13 h à 15 h (HNE), l'Agence canadienne d'inspection des aliments (ACIA) et le Conseil canadien du porc (CCP) organiseront un webinaire en direct portant sur la consultation à venir concernant la proposition de normes nationales et d'un cadre pour un programme national de compartimentation (PNC) afin d'atténuer le risque de peste porcine africaine (PPA) et de soutenir la continuité des activités si la PPA devait être détectée au Canada. La PPA n'a jamais été décelée au Canada, mais elle continue de se propager dans le monde et présente un risque important pour l'industrie canadienne du porc, ainsi que pour l'économie canadienne. L'ACIA a récemment appuyé l'élaboration des lignes directrices de l'Organisation mondiale de la santé animale (OIE) pour la compartimentation de la PPA et appuie présentement l'industrie dans l'élaboration d'un PNC de la PPA pour les porcs, en prévision de la découverte de cas de PPA au Canada.
