Border guards union plans court action against federal move

...The Public Service Alliance of Canada is asking the Federal Court to toss out a new essential-services agreement the government recently handed the union. It added more than 1,000 positions, including 400 working in trade matters, that the Canada Border Services Agency has never considered essential to the safety and security of Canadians.

Fifty synthetic rubber rings, worth about 30 cents a pop, ended up costing an Alberta company $90,000.

Lee Specialties Ltd., a manufacturer of oil field equipment, shipped rubber circles known as Viton o-rings along with other equipment, to Iran on Jan. 18, 2012. Authorities intercepted the cargo at the Calgary International Airport the next day.
