Update to Possible Labour Disruption at Port of Montreal

In order to keep CSCB members apprised of the current situation at the port of Montreal, we are posting an excerpt of a message received by a Montreal member from Maersk:

“With the potential impact of possible labour actions on operations at the Port of Montreal (POM) we encourage you to arrange the pickup of any import containers dwelling at the port no later than Friday, March 19, 2021. For containers dwelling at the port during a work stoppage, a charge of $70 USD/day will be assessed and applicable for the servicing of temperature-controlled containers in addition to the standard demurrage, detention and port storage (if applicable).

For export containers, as of March 16, 2021 CN and CP are no longer accepting reservations for the Toronto - Montreal corridor. Unfortunately, we have limited truck power which further limits available options. Please note that detention charges will be assessed and will apply. If there is no container activity, the booking will be cancelled.

Please note that Maersk will not be responsible for charges incurred for cargo that is dwelling at the Port of Montreal and is not accessible due to suspension of operations at the port.”

We encourage members to plan accordingly with their customers to avoid any potential issues in the coming days.
