EICS/EXCOL Bulletin - EICS II update

June 7, 2014

In 2013, the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada (DFATD) announced the creation of the EICS II project to replace the current EICS and EXCOL applications with a single web-enabled platform.  The goal of the EICS II project is to streamline and modernize the import and export permit systems into a quicker, more efficient system.

WTO Considers Updating Decision on Customs Valuation of Software

The World Trade Organization’s Committee on Customs Valuation is considering a proposal by Uruguay to update a 1984 decision that allows members to value software or data for customs purposes on the basis of the cost of the carrier media (e.g., magnetic tapes, CDs and DVDs) in which they are transported from one country to another.

Canada/U.S. Agreement Supports Potato Trade

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) have adopted revised guidelines to manage potato cyst nematode (PCN) that will support potato growers, help facilitate international trade, and maintain protection against the pest.
