Export of Pork to China - Detection of Ractopamine Residues in a Canadian Pork Shipment
Please be advised that the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has been informed by the Canadian embassy in China that Ractopamine residues were detected in a shipment of pork feet exported to China.
China is looking at this violation as a systemic failure in implementation of the "Canadian Ractopamine-Free Pork Certification Program" which could affect future pork exports to China. Furthermore, the Chinese authorities are testing Canadian pork for Ractopamine at a wider level.
Please ensure adherence to the requirements laid out in Annex T in Chapter 11 of the Meat Hygiene Manual of Procedures. Please contact your local CFIA Inspector for the requirements listed in Annex T.
This message supersedes an earlier message that you may have received directly from CFIA.
