Beef and Veal TRQ: Administration of MFN Permits

The purpose of this message is to provide greater clarity regarding FATDC's practice for the administration of section 13.7 of Notice to Importers No. 846, and for issuing import permits under the beef and veal TRQ when quantities become available under the MFN reserve as a result of permit cancellations.

Section 13.7 of the Notice says: Import permits will not normally be extended beyond the 30 days validity period in the case where there is no remaining availability in the MFN pool.

When MFN permits are cancelled following the expiration of their validity, the released quantities will be made available on a first come, first served, load-by-load basis to allocation holders who have requested that they be placed on an MFN import permit waiting list. Allocation holders who wish to be added to this list should inform the Department in writing at the following address: Beef.Veal-Boeuf.Veau@international.gc.ca, starting Wednesday, July 9, at 1 p.m. Ottawa time.

In establishing the waiting list, preference will be given to companies that have not requested permit extensions or have no outstanding expired permits.
