Implementation of an Aluminum Import Monitoring Regime and Strengthening of the Current Steel Import Monitoring Regime

General Import Permits (GIPs) No. 80 – Carbon steel, No. 81 – Specialty Steel Products, and No. 83 – Aluminum Products

This message pertains to imports of certain aluminum products which will be covered by a new aluminum import monitoring regime conducted through the addition of certain aluminum products to the Import Control List (ICL) as item 83 and the issuance of GIP No. 83 for these products and to imports of certain steel goods imported under the authority of GIPs No. 80 and 81.

The purpose of this message is to inform importers that a new Notice to Importers has been published reflecting the amendments to the ICL and the issuance of GIP No. 83, for certain aluminum products, effective September 1, 2019. The new Notice also contains information on the terms, conditions and importer obligations when utilizing the new GIP No. 83. Moreover, a new Notice to Importers has also been published to reflect amendments to steel GIPs No. 80 and 81. The new Notice also contains information on the terms, conditions and importer obligations when utilizing these GIPs.
