The iPod tax is dead. Good riddance.

An article referencing tariff code 9948, which allows for the duty-free importation of certain goods, has been posted in Maclean’s. This article begins with: Good news for lovers of consumer electronics—Canada’s iPod tax is dead. Even better news for importers of consumer electronics: They are receiving up to $27 million for past iPod taxes paid. (Excerpted from the 4 June 2014 article and available in its entirety at http://www.macleans.ca/economy/economicanalysis/the-ipod-tax-is-dead-good-riddance  (subscription may be required).

The Order-in-Council allowing a remission of the $27 million in duties previously paid is available in the Canada Gazette. The CSCB has requested, and is waiting for, subsequent policy clarification from the CBSA.
