Letter of guarantee for importation of processed casings from the United States/ Lettre de garantie pour l’importation de boyaux transformés provenant des États-Unis

In order to allow importation of processed casings from the United States (U.S.), the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has negotiated an interim procedure with the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). This interim procedure consists of issuing a letter of guarantee (LoG) for each shipment. This LoG will be issued by the establishment where final processing step was conducted and provided to the FSIS prior to the issuance of the Official Meat Inspection Certificate (OMIC- FSIS form 9060-07 or 9060-18).

The LoG must:

  • refer to the OMIC issued
  • be submitted to the National Import Service Center (NISC) with relevant documentation
  • accompany the original OMIC and the shipment
  • be presented to CFIA inspector if an import or preventive control inspection is required
  • be kept by the importer for two years after the day of the importation

The LoG will have the following text:

The interim procedure will be applicable until February 28, 2025. During this period CFIA will work in close collaboration with FSIS to implement a long term solution meeting applicable Canadian requirements.

Lettre de garantie pour l’importation de boyaux transformés provenant des États-Unis

Afin de permettre l’importation de boyaux transformés en provenance des États-Unis (É.-U.), l’Agence canadienne d’inspection des aliments (ACIA) a négocié une procédure intérimaire avec le Service de salubrité et d’inspection des aliments [Food Safety and Inspection Service] (FSIS). Cette procédure intérimaire consiste à émettre une lettre de garantie (LdG) pour chaque envoi. Cette LdG sera émise par l’établissement où la dernière étape de transformation a été effectuée et fournie au FSIS avant l’émission du certificat officiel d’inspection des viandes (formulaire COIV-FSIS 9060-07 ou 9060-18).

La LdG doit :

  • référer au COIV émis
  • être soumise au centre national de service à l’importation (CNSI) avec la documentation pertinente
  • accompagner le COIV original et l’envoi
  • être présentée à l’inspecteur de l’ACIA si une inspection d’importation ou de contrôle préventif est requise
  • être conservée par l’importateur pendant deux ans à compter du jour de l’importation

La LdG aura le texte suivant :

La procédure intérimaire sera applicable jusqu’au 28 février 2025. Pendant cette période, l’ACIA travaillera en étroite collaboration avec le FSIS pour mettre en œuvre une solution à long terme répondant aux exigences canadiennes applicables.
