On December 6, 2018, Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) issued a technical bulletin proposing a prescriptive alternative to meeting the FER standards for gas, oil-fired and electric furnaces. NRCan is no longer proposing this prescriptive path and will require compliance to the FER standards where they apply.

CRA: Interest rates for the second calendar quarter
The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) announced today the prescribed annual interest rates that will apply to any amounts owed to the CRA and to any amounts owed by the CRA to individuals and corporations. These rates will be in effect from April 1, 2019 to June 30, 2019.
Businesses with expiring meat permissions need SFC licence
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s (CFIA) meat permissions issued to businesses, under the now-repealed Meat Inspection Regulations, will expire on March 31, 2019. These businesses will need a Safe Food for Canadians (SFC) licence commencing April 1, 2019 to continue to operate in compliance with applicable regulations and avoid disruptions to trade.

Canada's exports were up 2.9% in January, mainly on the strength of higher crude oil export prices. Imports rose 1.5%, led by higher aircraft imports. As a result, Canada's merchandise trade deficit with the world narrowed from $4.8 billion in December to $4.2 billion in January.
