CFIA: Numbering Format Change for UK Approved Meat Establishments
Please be advised that the United Kingdom (UK) is changing the numbering format of their registered meat establishments eligible to export to Canada. The UK's competent authority has indicated that the changeover to new establishment number format will be completed in six months starting August 31, 2019.
Currently, the identification code for UK establishments approved and listed for export to Canada includes a "UK" prefix and an "EC" suffix.
The new UK meat establishment numbering format will have no "UK" prefix and no "EC" suffix.
For example: at the end of the transition period, establishment number "UK 7132 EC" will show as "7132" on the UK's Official Meat Inspection Certificate (OMIC).
During the six-month transition period, certificates with establishment numbers in both formats will be acceptable.
CFIA has initiated the process of updating its database and website to reflect these changes. This work is likely to be completed over the next few months.
If you have any questions, please contact the local CFIA area office.
