The semi-annual assessment of sentiment in Canada’s exporting community hit its lowest level since the European debt crisis panic in 2012 and the post-stimulus hangover in 2011. Macron tells Trudeau that France will ratify CETA 'as soon as possible'
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is leaving Paris with a concrete guarantee that France will proceed with ratification of the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) this summer.
"We will launch ratification as soon as possible," said French President Emmanuel Macron following a bilateral meeting between the two leaders Friday.

Canada's exports rose 1.3% in April, due mainly to higher exports of gold. Imports decreased 1.4%, mostly on lower imports of aircraft. As a result, Canada's merchandise trade deficit with the world narrowed from $2.3 billion in March to $966 million in April, the lowest deficit since October 2018.
