Canada seizes goods made with forced labour from China; MPs urge more action for Uyghurs

The Canadian government has seized goods from China it identified as being made with forced labour, the first Chinese shipment intercepted for this reason since federal law was toughened in 2020 to prohibit imports of items made under coercion.

Canada's merchandise exports decreased 2.3% in September, while imports were down 3.0%. Both declines were largely due to the shortage of semiconductor chips and their impact on the production of motor vehicles in North America.

Effective January 15, 2022 exporters of food and animal commodities destined for the European Union (EU) will be required to use updated export certificates. Export certificates can be accessed through the Trade Control and Expert System New Technology (TRACES NT), which serves as the EU's e-certification system.
