U.S. Senate approves new version of North American free trade agreement

January 17, 2020

Senators on Capitol Hill have finally approved the latest version of North America's free trade pact.

The implementation bill for the long-awaited U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement passed on a vote of 89-10.

That means it now needs only the signature of President Donald Trump to be fully approved in the United States.

CPMA and PMA announce plan to end issuing of generic UPCs

As of December 31st, 2019, Canadian Produce Marketing Association (CPMA) and Produce Marketing Association (PMA) will no longer issue new generic UPCs.  Instead, both organizations will support the industry in adopting brand owner (company-specific) UPCs for North American produce.

Canada's merchandise exports declined 1.4% in November to $48.7 billion, while imports were down 2.4% to $49.8 billion. As a result, Canada's merchandise trade deficit with the world narrowed from $1.6 billion in October to $1.1 billion in November.
