Trump nominates key donor Kelly Knight Craft as U.S. ambassador to Canada

U.S. President Donald Trump has named a top donor and fundraiser as ambassador to Canada.

Mr. Trump picked Kelly Knight Craft for the post in February and had the State Department vet her.... Ms. Craft must now be confirmed by the Senate.

Canada's merchandise trade balance with the world narrowed to a $370 million deficit in April, from a revised $936 million deficit in March. Exports rose 1.8% to $47.7 billion, led by higher exports of passenger cars and light trucks. Imports were up 0.6% to $48.1 billion, on the strength of import prices.

Spread of hog virus alarms piglet-exporting province Manitoba

The deadly pig disease PEDv (porcine epidemic diarrhea virus) is spreading faster than expected in Manitoba, Canada's biggest piglet-producing province.

The number of cases this spring, 10, matches the total from the past three years combined, although the outbreak is not comparable in scale to PEDv's spread across U.S. farms in 2013.
