The European Union (EU) has officially granted Canada and all other trade partners an extension from August 21, 2021 to January 15, 2022 for all exporters of commercial food and animal commodities destined for the EU in order to meet the new requirements of EU's Animal Health Law.

In June, a sharp increase in exports resulted in Canada's merchandise trade balance returning to a surplus position, reaching $3.2 billion. This follows a $1.6 billion deficit in May. Exports of goods rose 8.7% in June, while imports decreased 1.0%.

Minister Ng meets with Canadian softwood lumber producers

The Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade, as part of her ongoing engagement with the sector, met with Canadian forestry producers to discuss trade issues related to softwood lumber. This meeting with leaders in the industry follows similar meetings held last month with representatives from the forestry sector.
